Lisgar Park
VFA collaborated with a very knowledgeable and engaged community working group to develop a highly individual park design for Toronto’s West Queen West neighbourhood. The park design reflects the neighbourhood’s industrial and artistic histories, and is anticipated to function as an active hub for
this rapidly densifying neighbourhood.
Implementation of the park’s central area consists of extensive enhanced concrete hardscape, a large granular-surfaced area, 3 large wood decks, and multiple landscaped “islands” surrounded by customdesigned benches. The park is populated by over 100 new trees and a grid of vertical elements built from structural timbers salvaged from a nearby demolition site which have lights, power hookups and attachment points for screens, scrims, lights, etc. for artistic peformances or community events.
VFA collaborated with Earthscape on the design and integration of a custom themed playground within the south end of the park.
